About Us

The Perth Concert Band started out as 44th Battalion Band, an RSL brass Band formed in 1920 by members of the armed forces who had served in World War I. It was founded in order to form part of a welcoming party for the Prince of Wales’ visit to Perth the same year. In 1930, it was renamed the RSL Memorial Band. Sponsorship from the BP Refinery (Kwinana) Ltd in 1958 resulted in a name change to BP Brass Band. This sponsorship agreement was terminated in 1973 and the band reverted back to the 10th Light Horse RSL Memorial Band.

In 1974 sponsorship from the prominent television station Channel 7 was secured and the group became the TVW Channel 7 Brass Band. The group expanded in 1979, to become one of Perth's favourite bands the TVW Channel 7 Concert Band.

In 1990 the long association with Channel 7 ended and the band adopted a new identity — the Perth Concert Band.

Throughout its colourful history, the band has remained one of Western Australia’s premier bands, winning the A grade division of the Western Australian Band Association championships a dozen times within the past 20 years.
